著者紹介: Th. R. Hofman

1937年シカゴ生まれ。イリノイ大学(物理学専攻)からMITの大学院を経て，パリ第4(新ソルボンヌ)大学で言語学の博士号取得。アメリカ，カナダ，フランス，中国，日本で研究と教育に従事し，欧米では機械翻訳のプロジェクトにも参加。島根大学，富山大学，北陸大学，熊本県立大学で教鞭をとり，1994年没。

影山太郎(かげやまたろう）

1949年神戸市生まれ。大阪外国語大学及び大学院(修士)を終え，南カリフォルニア大学大学院で博士号(言語学)取得。『日英比較語彙の構造』(松柏社)で市河賞。『文法と語形成』(ひつじ書房)で金田一賞。関西学院大学名誉教授。現在，国立国語研究所所長。
