Lesson Design

Lesson planning can be time and energy consuming. We understand because we are teachers just like you! The Compass interactive workbook offers intriguing content, effective learning strategies, and clear assessments so that you can spend more time being with your students.

After becoming familiar with the lesson flow, purpose, and intentions for each activity, think about the following questions.

  • Who are my learners? What are their interests?
  • What values do I and my students bring to class? How can I leverage that?
  • What unique support do my students need? How can I provide them with these?

Your understanding of your students and the culture of the community in which you teach will inform your decisions on the learning path. Do you teach 50 minutes everyday or 2 hour every other day? After considering those elements, put your ideas down. We suggest that instead of aiming for perfection in your lesson plan, know that we design our lessons with our best ability- expecting to modify as we interact with our learners. We suggest you establish a routine so students know what to expect on a daily basis. This will also save you time:-) Below is a sample lesson flow for a high school class – 55 minutes, meets everyday.
